The essence

The address is a door in a derb barely wide enough for two people, and no map has ever found it on the first try — so someone comes out to meet you. That is the whole idea of this house. It is small: small enough that by the second morning breakfast arrives on the roof the way you like it, without being asked. Guests here write about the staff far more than the rooms — the boarding pass printed late at night, the soup carried upstairs to someone who fell ill. Jemaa el-Fna is a few minutes away, the souks fewer, and the Koutoubia stands over the terrace at breakfast. But what people remember is being looked after in a city that can otherwise feel like a maze.
